Crockett’s Breakfast Camp was founded on the legacy of David C. “Crockett” Maples, and his story has been the true inspiration for this restaurant.
From Trailblazer to Restaurateur: The Story of Davy Crockett
Crockett served as a private and corporal during his life, and once his service ended he went home to support his wife and family with a small supply store.
During this time he was known for serving hungry travelers an appetizing homemade breakfast in the mountains. He was also very familiar with the rocky terrain and served as a guide to many travelers, but during one of these trips he was caught in a blizzard and nearly froze to death.
He was struck with frostbite and had his legs amputated, but even through these challenges he made a pair of boots with wooden legs and continued to live an active and fulfilling life until he passed in 1928.
His story is what this restaurant was built on. A statue of David C. Maples stands outside the restaurant to represent his resilience and dedication to serving others; and that’s exactly what they pledge to their customers in their delicious dishes, outstanding service, and an unforgettable experience for breakfast lovers.
