Gatlinburg Ober Skiing
Snow sports like skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing are popular in the Smoky Mountains region. The place to be for these exciting winter activities is Ober Mountain, the state’s number one destination for snow sports and even indoor fun when the temperatures drop.
The ski and snowboard season begins early to mid-December and can extend until mid-March, depending on the weather. Ober Mountain adjusts its opening and closing dates based on whatever Mother Nature has in store that year. Snow tubing is the only exception; the location opens this activity on the Saturday before Thanksgiving and continues it through March.
Head To The Mountain
When purchasing ski area tickets, visitors have unlimited access to all of the open slopes and lifts. There are ten ski trails to choose from serviced by two quads and one double chairlift, plus one surface lift and a Terrain Park. Rentals and lessons are separate for skiing and snowboarding, and bookings must be done in person.
More Than Just Snow
One of the top reasons to head to Ober is the complete winter fun experience for the whole family. Not only is there skiing, snowboarding, and tubing, but there is a year-round amusement park at the top of Mount Harrison featuring “snowless” tubing, the Ski Mountain Coaster, ice bumper cars, the Alpine Slide, mini golf, the scenic chairlift, and the Wildlife Encounter. There is also ice skating and the Ober Shops. Need a snack? Head to the full-service restaurant and lounge, which round out the offerings. The location is also just a tram ride away from Downtown Gatlinburg, making it easy to add to your Gatlinburg itinerary.
